Azumi will conduct two workshops with you:
- Ikebana
Azumi is an expert florist who has worked across the world in Japan, Europe and Australia. In this workshop, Azumi demonstrates ‘hanakubari’, a contemporary Japanese ikebana style. Azumi will share her knowledge of floral design using the simplicity and beauty of Japanese ikebana techniques. - Freestyle Arrangement
For this workshop, we have made an easy to understand process to help you accomplish your own free-style arrangement with seasonal garden flowers. These carefree, thrown-together-looking arrangements do have rules and principles behind them which we look forward to sharing with you in this workshop.
We will be observing the individual movement and character of our seasonal garden flowers and the role they play in helping achieve an organic outline for our arrangements
Both arrangements are yours to keep and take home at the end of the workshop.
Alameda Homestead Nursery is a small family owned production nursery specialising in hybrid clematis, wisteria, daphne and hardy perennials.
You will have the opportunity to meet Judy Button, owner of Alameda Homestead Nursery, who will give you a tour of her working flower farm growing over 100 different clematis species.
Experience includes cutting your own clematis and understanding and appreciating this unique species as well as the growing process.
In relaxed and open group discussions you will have the opportunity to chat with Azumi and Judy, sharing their passion and love of clematis as well as be some of the first to visit Alameda Homestead Nursery, and see a working flower farm in all its glory.

Azumi is an ikebana master and artist with over 30 years of experience, working across Japan, Europe, and Australia. Her contemporary Ikebana Free style is rooted in authentic Japanese aesthetics, while allowing space for individuality and modern expression.
Azumi describes her work as “speaking in flowers”—using ikebana as a visual language to express ideas, emotions, and inner feelings. Through her art and teaching, she helps each person translate their own voice into form, guided by nature.
